Directions to venue
Sackville street campus
The conference, exhibition and poster sessions are taking place
in the Renold building, located on the Sackville street campus of
the University of Manchester.

Travel by air
Manchester Airport is one of the largest and busiest in the country.
It is located about 10 miles (16km) south of the city centre, about
30 minutes from the university.
The airport has a number of transport links to the city:
•Train - The airport’s two terminals are linked directly to the
city centre by a fast, frequent 24 hour train link to both Piccadilly
and Oxford Road stations. On arrival at one of the stations, see
directions to Sackville street campus under section “Travel by train”.
•Taxi - A taxi from the airport to the University will cost approximately
£15.
•Bus - Local buses also run to the Oxford Road and Sackville Street
areas of the campus. Most major airlines fly to and from Manchester.

Travel by train
The University of Manchester is located close to both Piccadilly
main line station (about two and a half hours from London) and Oxford
Road train station, with Victoria train station a little further
away. The closest station to the Sackville Street campus is Piccadilly
main line station (5 minutes walking distance).

Directions from Piccadilly station to Sackville Street campus
Head for the escalators to the left of the concourse, following
the signs for ‘Taxis’/Fairfield Street. Immediately outside the
station main entrance, turn right and cross London Road to the Bulls
Head pub. Keeping the Bulls Head on your right walk down London
Road & turn right immediately after the railway viaduct, onto Altrincham
Street. Continue straight ahead, and to your left you will see the
Barnes Wallis Building, Staff House and the Renold Building. For
Manchester Conference Centre and Days Hotel, please continue straight
ahead and turn left at the Security Lodge; MCC/Days Hotel will be
on your right.
Directions from Oxford Road station to Sackville Street campus
At the bottom of the station approach, cross over Oxford St. into
Whitworth St (to the right of the Palace Theatre). Turn right before
the University's Sackville Street Building and continue along Sackville
St. Proceed under the railway viaduct, turn left immediately before
the security lodge and continue along the pedestrian walkway to
the Renold Building, Staff House and the Barnes Wallis Building.

Travel by bus and coach
National Express coaches serve over 1,200 destinations across the
UK from the Chorlton Street Coach Station, which is near Piccadilly
railway station and a short walk from the Sackville street campus.

Directions to Sackville Street campus
Turn right out of Chorlton Street Coach Station onto Chorlton Street
and walk to the junction with Whitworth Street. Cross Whitworth
Street and the Sackville Street part of the campus is straight ahead.
Car parking
Delegates should make use of the multi-storey car park on Charles
Street. Delegates are issued with a parking ticket on entry and
pay on exit.
Current charges are: £8 for a day; £9 for 24 hours.
Arriving on Sunday
Registration hours for those participants arriving on Sunday
are 16:30 hrs to 18:30 hrs.
The registration desk on Sunday only will be located in
the reception area of the Weston Conference Centre. Those participants
that are staying at Weston Hall and the Days Hotel will also be
able to check in for their accommodation in the same area. See the
accommodation page on this site for details of check-in/check-out
hours.
A Welcome reception with drinks and nibbles has been organised in
the Barnes Wallis building for those participants arriving on Sunday.
The reception will be followed by the dinner at the Barnes Wallis
restaurant for those who have pre-booked a place through the Institute.
Please note that the dinner is not part of the registration fee
and should have been booked as an extra item.

All participants will be given a registration pack containing conference
material, a participant badge and tickets for social events. There
will be no tickets for refreshments and lunches; instead participants
should wear their badge.
Access to conference sessions and ITP sessions
Registered Photon06 participants (full attendees or one-day attendees)
have access to all conference sessions, including the ITP sessions.
A conference badge (transparent) will be handed out to participants
with their conference material when when they register.
Participants that have registered for the Industry Technology
Programme only (see the daily ITP fee listed on the Registration
Form), will be given a different colour badge (red) at the time
when they register. This registration does NOT include attendance
of any of the main conference sessions.
Please note that it will not be possible to amend your booking onsite
from ITP participation to full conference participation, other than
in exceptional circumstances.
Lecture Theatres
All sessions will take place in the Renold building. Participants
should check the programme for exact room locations.
Poster Sessions
All poster sessions (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday) will be located
in the basement area of the Renold building. Please see the programme
for exact timings.
Beer and soft drinks will be served with poster sessions on Monday
and Tuesday.
Presenters giving a poster should read the “Instructions for Presenters”
section of the Programme and Conference Handbook carefully.
Urgent messages, Contact numbers
A message board will be placed in the proximity of the conference
registration desk. Participants should check regularly for messages,
as an attempt to locate participants during session times will be
only made in case of extreme emergency.

Wireless Connections
Sackwille Street Campus accommodation facilities - Student
bedrooms at Weston Hall do not have wireless access. Days Hotel
has wireless access provided by the service provider The Cloud.

upon your arrival.
Renold building - a number of internet access kiosks and
internet points will be available for participants in the area where
posters /lectures / exhibition are going to take place. For further
details, speak to the organisers onsite.
